Welcome to My Team "Eric the Viking" our Fundraising Page for ALS
| Event: | Denver Walk- Car Parade Edition |
| Date: | Sunday, October 10, 2021 |
| Team: | Eric the Viking |
Thank you for helping me reach my Walk to Defeat ALS fundraising goal! The Walk to Defeat ALS raises funds to support those affected by ALS and to spread awareness of the urgency to find treatments and a cure. This year the Walk, actually a Car Parade Walk version, for my team "Eric the Viking" will be on Sunday October 10th at 10 am.
My husband, Eric - The Viking, as all of his friends called him as they are all sure he was one in his previous life, lost his battle on April 1st, 2021 just a few short months ago.
We were, and still are, until we meet again Soulmates, we have been inseparable for 28 years and spent every day and moment, literally - together. We worked together, played together and traveled together. Now I'm left with a huge hole in my heart and soul all due to this horrible disease which needs a cure!
I strive to help in anyway I can, as no one, should have to to through this disease, or have to watch someone go through this, or become a 24/7 caregiver to someone they love as they progress and lose their battle to this disease.
FACT: Every 90 Minutes someone is diagnosed or passes away from ALS.
My friends know me, they have never seen me ask for donations of any kind, I'm even shy about asking people to join us traveling and it's our business. But I have decided that Eric would not have wanted me to just sit around and feel sorry that he contacted ALS - and WHY? No one knows how or why someone gets it, but he would want me to help out as much as I can.
We talked before he died, about how fortunate we were, as the Rocky Mtn Chapter of ALS was so helpful, even though he didn't get diagnosed until Late January, after almost 3 years of misdiagnosis, they reached out to us and have so many resources available it was amazing.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. ALS can strike anyone, and presently there is no known cause or cure.
That’s why I’m walking. To change the statistics. To bring help and hope to those living with the disease. To ensure that no one ever hears the words: “You Have ALS” again.
The past two years have brought incredible advancements in ALS research, expanded access to care for people living with ALS, and enabled legislation that impacts the quality of life of people with ALS and their families.
But, we can’t stop now. The key to a cure begins with you.
Please consider walking with me or sponsoring me. With your help, we will be able to make a difference in the lives of people affected by this disease.
