Care Services Programs
In order to minimize potential exposure to the Coronavirus, effective immediately our Chapter has made the following changes to the Care Service Programs:
Care Consultations- We want to ensure that your questions are answered, and your needs are met. Care Service Coordinators are ready to assist all of our ALS families. You may reach out for information on living with ALS and how to be proactive in the changes that occur. Living with ALS is all encompassing and to understand how COVID-19 complicates matters, view The ALS Association's resources specifically addressing these changes here.
Caregiver Support– One of the most important, but often overlooked tasks for caregivers is caring for their own health and well-being. We have created resources specific to the virus outbreak and in general to assist.
Planning ahead amid a Pandemic – COVID-19 has created unique circumstances that require additional pre-planning in the event the virus comes into your home. Read the following articles to assist your preparations in case needed.
In-Person Home Visits- Our care services team is committed to supporting people with ALS during this time via phone, email, and Zoom (a remote face-to-face option).
Support Groups- We are encouraging groups to continue meeting remotely via conference call, WebEx and Facebook. Contact your group facilitator for additional information. Your area support group listing
Equipment Program- The equipment loan program has been modified. We understand that additional challenge this may create for some and have created a listing of area equipment rentals that are able to maintain hospital level sanitizing procedures. Click here to see a listing of available companies.
Learning Lab Visits- Our learning lab has been suspended until further notice. Contact your Care Coordinator to learn more about the challenges people with ALS may experience, tips on managing mobility challenges and how to bring in Home Health Care to get the training needed when caring for someone with ALS.
Clinics- Our ALS Clinic partners are assessing developments and continuing to adjust their protocols. Your clinic is happy to speak with you about their response and answer questions about your upcoming appointments and using telehealth. Your Chapter’s Care Service Coordinator is also happy to assist you. We are communicating with all our clinic partners to exchange protocols and best practices for the benefit of everyone in our shared mission to serve you. We know that many of you are preparing to have phone and video visits with your medical providers, and may not be familiar with how to use one of the most common systems, Zoom, for Telehealth. We are here to assist if needed.
Annual Educational Symposiums- Our spring symposium has been postponed. Our team is looking at best options to continue educating our ALS Community in the disease, managing the changes that a diagnosis of ALS brings and coping with the diagnosis. Stay in touch with your Care Coordinator for updates on the program.
Community Partner Education- We are working with our community healthcare partners arranging web conferencing services (Zoom) to continue to educate the various community healthcare companies that work with our families on ALS and collaborate as they support our families.
